Kannan Technical interests
I have worked in software development for around 13 years in a variety of different vertical industries like
nuclear engineering, internetworking, transportation and finance.
My resume is available here.
I have developed software using a variety of
technologies, tools and techniques including:
- 3-tier distributed systems (CORBA, RPC over HTTP, SOAP)
- GUI development (X/Motif, Win32, MFC, WTL, Tk, Excel VBA, XUL, HTML, CSS)
- Component technologies (COM, ActiveX, EJB)
- Databases (Access, Informix, Postgresql, Oracle, Sybase)
- Scripting languages (perl, python, Javascript)
- Web application development (java, mod_perl, jsp, servlets)
- Directory services (OpenLDAP, Fedora Directory Server)
- Message oriented middleware (MQSeries)
- Document management (Documentum based applicationd development using WDK
and DFC, WebDAV) and
- Blackberry wireless application development.
- .NET C# windows application development.
I have expertise in enterprise application integration -- specifically implementing new technologies and tools and customizing them to match
the organizational requirements. Some examples of the integration projects I have completed are:
- RPC over HTTP to integrate proprietary system based on old RPC middleware
technology to the web and enable existing applications to seamlessly migrate
to start using the internet. This saved the company and clients leased line
setup costs as the new versions of the application now ran on standard internet
protocol. I did this project in 1997 and built an apache plugin module to
interface the legacy RPC middleware technology to the web at the server side
and a WinINET based plugin module at the client side.
- Integrated scripting engine (javascript spidermonkey) into C++ based servers
to enable automation and testing.
- Integrated XSLT engine to services to produce configurable high performance
reports.
- Built JNI plugins and rewrote JDBC drivers to improve web application performance
- Developed Business objects and policies to customize Documentum
- Built MQ Series Application Exits to implement organizational policies for message replication
- Built Blackberry based wireless applications to provide continuous access
to up to the minute business data
- Designed, Implemented and maintained a robust high performance replicated
LDAP directory server
I have a Masters in Software Engineering from School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. I am interested
in Software architecture specifically product line architectures and composable systems, formal modeling tools for
requirements capture and design verification and software process improvement.
Some technologies I am interested in currently are:
- Financial engineering and mathematical finance -- integrating models and
building trading systems
- Excel Addins and spreadsheet application development
- MacOSX Development
- Mozilla technologies (XPCOM, XUL, XBL, XULRunner, Embedding mozilla technologies)
- ActiveX/OLE Containers and Controls
- DotNet technologies (MSIL, C#, Managed C++)
- Object-Relational databases (postgresql, GIST)
- Document Management
- Windows Internals
